Despite the intensity of my suffering, I wouldn’t change a thing; my greatest challenges have also been my greatest gifts. On one hand, my challenges made it difficult to function “normally”. On the other hand, the hyper-alert mind that created those challenges also became the tool that allowed me to heal myself and ultimately others. Because of my insatiable need to learn and understand, I’ve spent the past 15 years immersing myself in the study of numerous integrative medicine modalities and have become one of the few integrative pediatricians in the country with double fellowships in integrative medicine and medical herbalism.
My search for answers led me to my greatest mentor, Dr. Kamyar Hedayat MD. Through his teaching of Endobiogeny, which is at the heart of Wholistic Minds, I learned how to see the beautiful intelligence, interconnectedness and healing capacity of the human body, as well as how to assist the body’s natural healing mechanisms. As for myself, I’ve come to learn that my challenges are due to a web of imbalances. Genetically, I have several mutations that create my hyper-aroused state and predispose me to anxiety.
Adding further challenge, I have adrenal glands that fatigue easily and a subtly overactive thyroid; a combination that I often see in the children I work with. The adrenal imbalance results in a state of exhaustion with the inability to calm down (“tired but wired”), while the thyroid imbalance results in anxiety, emotional volatility and even OCD. If that wasn’t enough, I also have a sensitive gastrointestinal tract with gluten intolerance. Eating gluten is like having cayenne peppers poured into my brain; it causes me to quickly go from calm to agitated over the smallest things.
These various imbalances have caused me to struggle for most of my life, but this struggle was necessary for me to become the person who can help you free your child from their suffering. I suffered into my adulthood so that I could prevent others from having to follow the same path. Your child does not need to suffer and neither do you. I look forward to working with you and sharing all that I have learned.
